Japan

I love Japan and I’m lucky enough to have been there four times. Akihabara is my home from home, and I’ve spent hours walking around the legendary Manadrake, Ishmaru, KBooks and other great stores Akihabara has to offer anime and manga fans.

Japanese culture is fantastic and I hope you can find a way to visit Japan some day.

Fortunately Japanese popular culture is easy to find in other countries thanks to the Internet and the popularity of anime and manga in the USA, the UK and many other countries.

I’ve always wanted to be able to draw Japanese inspired artwork, but unfortunately I’m not much of an artist. But if you have any talent at all then you’ll love this guide I fould that shows you exactly how to draw manga cartoons as well as a professional illustrator.

The guide shows the essentials of how to create authentic looking manga characters, and even shows you how to put them together in a manga script. Maybe you can roll your own cartoon?

There’s plenty of information about how to draw hunky heros, cute schoolgirls, as well as how to draw characters in all the usual poses you’ll find in professionally drawn manga cartoons.

The guide also shows you all the common graphical techniques that are used to show readers the character’s feelings of anger, embarrassment and other conditions. There’s plenty of information to help you out with the really tricky parts of illustration you might have trouble with – whether it’s eyes,  hair, clothing or hands. There’s even a special section about drawing manga inspired weapons.

Think of the fantastic illustrations you’ll be able to create once you learn the classic Japanese styles!

Visit Japan and you can see real life anime girls, like this Gundam lady!

Wow! A real life Gundam pilot

Drawing great manga cartoons isn’t just a cool hobby though. In Japan anime and manga style characters are used to advertise everything from mobile phones to breakfast cereals, and an increasing number of Western businesses are starting to realise just how great Japanese modern popular culture is when it comes to trying to get people to buy their boring products!

If you have or want an art-related job then being able to draw Japanese style characters would wow any potential employer!

I work as a web developer and I once worked with a web designer who was famous for his incredible Japanese inspired graphics. It’s a shame the dot com crash put that website we created out of business as it looked absolutely stunning!

Have fun drawing some fantastic Japanese inspired illustrations!
